Holidays in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican capital of Santo Domingo is one of the country’s most important attractions. The city has many memorials of colonial times: Columbus Palace with an extensive garden; Osama fortress with the tower of Torre del Omenache; Church of Santa Maria la Menor; the ruins of the monastery of San Francisco and the Museum of the Royal Palace and the Columbus Lighthouse.
It is worth paying attention to the city of artists Altos de Chavon, which is a beautiful medieval village. Here is a museum of archeology with a collection of pre-Columbian artifacts.
Its exposition is considered the largest and one of the best outside of Santo Domingo. It is very interesting to visit the Brugal distillery in Puerto Plata. This is a functioning enterprise, but tourists can observe the working process from the bridge over the working area, and after viewing the workshop, they offer to do free tasting of drinks here. In the central part of the island on the ridge is the chic José Armando National Park, which is adjacent to the other José del Carmen Ramirez park.
No less interesting is Los Aitises Park with mangrove swamps, palm and cotton thickets and caves, as well as the picturesque Parque del Este in the vicinity of Bayahibe. 50 km from the city of Santiago lies the city of Jarabacoa, where there are an incredible amount of waterfalls: El Salto Jimenoa, Balneario de la Guasaras, El Salto de Bayagate and others.
DOMINICAN: THE BEST RESORTS OF THE COUNTRY
Punta Cana is located at the junction of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea – tens of kilometers of snow-white sandy beaches with luxury hotels that stretch along the eastern coast of Haiti. In addition to the wide sandy beaches, here you can find all the conditions for lovers of sailing and windsurfing. This resort is protected by law from any construction that could harm nature. The center of the province of La Romana is located on the south coast of the island, between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. In addition to the impressive nature of the tropics, there is a luxury tourist complex. There are no special attractions in the town of La Romana, but 110 km from it to the capital. But the resort of Boca Chica, in the south-east of the country, is only 30 km from Santo Domingo.
This is a large tourist center in one of the most colorful cities in the Caribbean. It is a lagoon around which there is a coral reef that protects it. The proximity of the resort to the capital allows you to visit it often. Juan Dolio is also located in the southeast of the island and also near the capital. In this resort, there are three sandy beaches: a small Playa Caribe, calm Playa Guayacanes and surrounded by coconut palm trees Playa Juan Dolio. The Uvero Alto resort, located on the east coast, is quite quiet, and its special wealth is one of the largest coral reef in the Caribbean. Therefore, in addition to relaxing on the beach, you can go diving and explore the underwater world.
There are deserted beaches, coconut groves, clean rivers, waterfalls and caves, and in the sea you can see dolphins and manatees, and even whales, only in a certain period.
WHEN IT IS BETTER TO FLY TO DOMINICAN
In the Dominican Republic you can relax at any time of the year, but it is worth considering some of its features. The weather is mostly dry and warm, and the hottest month is August. Sea breezes and trade winds blowing from the northeast, significantly soften the heat. From May to August, the rainy season lasts and is characterized by frequent but short showers. Showers are also possible in November and December.
From September to November, there are hurricanes in the country.
SOUVENIRS FROM DOMINICAN
It is always interesting to bring something special and reminiscent of it from the country: for example, Dominican jewelry using amber or a rare blue larimar stone. Even in the Dominican Republic, small faceless dolls are sold in national dresses, which are most often created from clay. Attention may be drawn to paintings by local artists. You can also bring home Dominican rum, cigars and coffee.
Souvenirs can be bought in shopping centers in Santo Domingo, in supermarkets or hotels.
In the Dominican Republic, a visa is not needed for Ukrainians. An ordinary passport is enough. To enter the country, a return date ticket, money, a power of attorney for a child from a second parent, if necessary, are also required. Upon arrival at the airport you need to purchase a tourist card and fill it out, as well as fill out a migration card.
In addition to those things that are usually needed at sea: for example, sunblock and a hat, a light jacket or even a windbreaker will not hurt in case of winds.
Due to the high humidity in the Dominican Republic, it is advisable to bring several bathing suits with you, as the swimsuit may not dry out during the night.
For visits to active excursions you need comfortable clothes and shoes. As for the first-aid kit, in addition to the preparations necessary for the trip, firstly, it is worth putting an insect repellent, as there are a lot of mosquitoes and midges.
